様々な組み合わせのアルキルグリコシドは、天然の状態で膜たんぱく質を可溶化、分離できる非イオン性界面活性剤として使用することができます。

このうちいくつかの糖は、プロテオミクス分析におけるタンパク質レベルの分解能を増加させることができます。

これらは水溶液中で安定であり、容易に透析によって除去することができます。
